D. 202 high school students earn honors at USF art competition

PSHS senior Samaah Khan won Best of Show for her painting, "A Progression of Pain"  Six District 202 high school students’ artwork earned accolades in the 2018-19 University of St. Francis Illinois High School Art Competition and Exhibition.

Plainfield South High School senior Samaah Kahn won best in show and $100 in the statewide competition for her painting “A Progression of Pain.”

Other student artists from PSHS and Plainfield East also earned honorable mentions and $25 each:

Plainfield South High School

  • Jackson “Jack” Grooms, junior, digital photography, “Color-POP-Sensation
  • Kimani Tillman, senior, digital/mixed media, “Janelle Monae
  • Violet Guzman, junior, works on paper, “Serendipity”

Plainfield East High School

  • Oleg Bezuglov, junior, works on paper, “Duomo, Milan, Italy”
  • Dominic Snovicky, senior, photo, “The Valley of Broken Dreams”

More than 30 winning artists were recognized during a reception on January 19, 2019 at the University of St. Francis Art Gallery, 25 E. Van Buren St., Joliet.

More than 140 students from 16 Illinois high schools submitted art this year.

The university has been hosting the competition for more than 11 years.
