Intro to Weight Training

-This class is a course in which students will learn proper lifting/spotting technique, improve locomotor body movements, and participate in a structured weight training program.  Every student will be expected to participate in the structured exercises for the day.

Objectives:

  • Understand basic anatomy and application of exercise physiology.
  • Gain fundamental knowledge of physiological principles: strength training benefits, strength training effects, strength training principles.
  • Develop an individualized program based upon student’s goals: Emphasizing either muscle strength, muscle endurance, muscle size, muscle flexibility or a combination of any.
  • Learn and demonstrate proper lifting/spotting technique.
  • Understand the different muscle groups and resistance exercises to strengthen muscle groups.
  • Make personal gains in strength, mobility, fitness, and overall athleticism.
