Freshmen (Class of 2025)

August 2021

Hello Class of 2025!

Welcome to Plainfield North High School!  We are so excited to work with you over the next 4 years. Soon enough, you will meet your specific alpha counselor who will be a valuable resource for you as you navigate high school.  As the College and Career Counselor, I will be another resource for you in addition to your alpha counselor.  During freshman year, I will share with you the PNHS College & Career Center website, as well as Naviance, our college and career research and planning tool.  You will complete the Strengths Explorer in Naviance to identify your talents and then explored careers that best utilize those talents.  Once you have a career path in mind, Naviance lists potential college majors and you can search for colleges with that major (as well as other criteria such as college location and size).  We also have more information listed on the PNHS College & Career Center website about colleges, military, and trade schools

You will be using Naviance for your entire time at PNHS to guide you through this journey of creating a career goal and making a plan to get there.  Go to My Planner > Tasks to see Naviance activities that are suggested by grade level.  For a general overview of tasks we recommend completing by grade level, check out the College & Career Planning Checklist.

One thing that I would like to inform our freshmen about is the Give Back Scholarship Program.  This program offers full-ride scholarships to high achieving, low-income students to specific colleges and/or trades/certification program.  To date, the organization has paid for over 50 Plainfield students to attend college.

The basic parameters are:

  1. Must be in 8th, 9th or 10th grade
  2. Must be full Pell eligible (they still have to do the estimator for Give Back)
  3. C average or higher preferred
  4. If a student wishes to begin the process here is the link https://www.giveback.ngo/get-started/.

There is an informational seminar on September 8th at 6PM at Plainfield Central High School.  Here is the FLYER and WEBSITE for more information.

Please contact Mrs. Kalantzis, College & Career Counselor, (ekalantz@psd202.org) or your Counselor with any questions.

Have a fantastic school year!
