Juniors (Class of 2023)

August 2021

Hello Class of 2023!

Half of your high school experience is now behind you.  As upperclassmen, it is really important to start planning for life after graduation.  There are many options, and the College & Career Center is here to help.  Make sure you are on track by reviewing the College & Career Planning Checklist

Below are some useful resources based on your intended path.

If you are planning to go to college

  • I will meet with juniors to review Naviance , our college research tool.  We will use the SuperMatch tool, which allows you to filter colleges by location, size, and major.
  • Come up with a list of potential schools you are interested in attending.  We recommend that you visit schools prior to applying next year.  You can schedule tours on the colleges’ websites.
  • Think about careers that you are interested in and what majors coincide with those careers.  Naviance will also assist you with finding out what colleges offer specific majors.
  • You will take the SAT in the spring.  This is a college admissions entrance requirement for many schools.  There are many that are test optional, however.  Check out Fair Test’s updated list of colleges with optional testing policies.  It’s important to know, though, that test optional means different things at different colleges, so make sure to research what it means at each college.    Get more information about testing on the PNHS College & Career Center webpage.

If you are planning to go into the military

If you are planning to go into a trade

  • Review the Trade/Apprenticeship Resources listed on the PNHS College & Career webpage.
  • Contact the local unions for qualifications and requirements.

If you are still unsure and need help exploring career options:

If you are still unsure what you plan to do after graduation, that is fine, too.  It may be helpful to do some more research about career options.  Check out the “Careers” section in Naviance and other Career Planning Resources on the PNHS website.

Know that any research/planning you can do now is really helpful.  It’s a lot of work, but we are here to support you and answer any questions you have.

Have a wonderful school year.
