Hi Juniors!  The College & Career Counselor, Mrs. Hurst, met with you all last month during your English classes to discuss the research and planning required for life after graduation.  Many resources are available on Naviance and the PNHS College & Career Center website.  If you would like to set up a meeting with Mrs. Hurst to discuss your plans after graduation, you can do so using this link:  https://calendly.com/mrshurst/collegeandcareerplanningmeeting.

Below are some upcoming events that we are hosting to help support you on your journey.

 

Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Awareness Night (virtual):  Tuesday, February 23 at 7pm

Participants can gain valuable college and career information from representatives of HBCU institutions and businesses including:

  • Alcorn State University
  • Bethune-Cookman University
  • Hampton University
  • Howard University
  • Fermilab

 

College Planning Night for Juniors and Parents (virtual):  Thursday, March 4 at 7pm

Participants can gain valuable college research and planning information from Admissions Representatives from the following colleges:

  • North Central College
  • Purdue University
  • University of Chicago
  • University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign

 

Virtual visits with College Admissions Reps:  Ongoing in March

Meeting with College Admissions Representatives is a critical part of the college research process.  These visits offer students an opportunity to show demonstrated interest in a college and to learn more about a college’s history, admission criteria, top majors, and campus life. 

Visits are currently being added and subject to change, so please check Naviance for the most up to date visit schedule. 

**Note that students should communicate with their teachers about missing class and are responsible for any make-up work.**

District 202 high school juniors have the chance to broaden their academic horizons with the help of a special grant to help pay for a summer extended learning experience –whether in person, or virtually.

The Plainfield Foundation for Excellence will award multiple “Horizon Grants” totaling up to $4,000 to current high school juniors from District 202’s four high schools and Plainfield Academy.
