Career Planning Resources
Each school year PNHS students will meet in groups with the College & Career Counselor to learn more about who they are so they can define their plans for the future and how to get there. For the past 4 years, Naviance has been the main tool used by the College & Career Center to guide students through this process. Naviance offers a variety of resources to help determine interests and explore careers, such as the Strengths Explorer, Career Interest Profiler, Career Cluster Finder, and Road Trip Nation. For the 2024-2025 school year, we will be transitioning to School Links, another college and career research platform. Seniors can still use Naviance for this year. 9th-11th graders will use School Links.
Besides Naviance, there are many other tools that students can use to help guide their future plans:
Take the O*NET Interest Profiler on the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign website to discover how your interests relate to the world of work; Use your results to learn what careers and majors you might want to consider
Research careers using the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics' Occupational Outlook Handbook, which highlights education required, pay, and projected job growth
Use the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) Career Guide to explore career paths and take a career assessment
Use the Illinois' High-Demand High-Wage Occupations through 2026 to research the career outlook for the state of Illinois
Use the Career Information Systems (Illinois Department of Labor Security) to research occupations, wages, and scholarships for the state of Illinois
Review Will County: Where the Jobs Are for a summary view of the job demand and employer needs in Will County
Take a simple Career Assessment and explore dozens of great career paths serving the Joliet Junior College community
