Our Mission

To prepare our students with the knowledge and skills to maintain a life-long healthy lifestyle.

Courses offered: 

Freshmen Year: 

All freshmen at PNHS, first semester, will take a PE class called "Wellness".  The focus of the course is to develop and maintain life-long fitness habits and learn the Health Related Fitness Components. Students will participate in a variety of PE activities. Twice a week activities will have a focus on health-related physical fitness.  Students will be wearing heart rate monitors during fitness activities on a weekly basis. Second semester, students will have a choice of a PE elective. Below are the choices for the upcoming school year:

PE elective choices for second semester freshmen year (*all of the below are one semester only):

  • Fitness Program & Design (open to 9th & 10th grades only)- this course is a continuation of Wellness. Students will apply the knowledge learned about the Health Related Fitness Components and developing a fitness program. This course will dress and participate in a variety of PE activities and have two fitness days a week. Students will wear heart rate monitors on a weekly basis. This course is STRONGLY recommended for all freshmen to take 2nd semester.

  • Adventure Challenge (open to 9th-12th grades) - PE class everyday. This class works on teambuilding, communication and will climb the rock wall. Student will have fitness days 2 days a week and wear heart rate monitors on a weekly basis.

  • Dance I- for students interested in learning more about dance. Students dance 3 days a week and have fitness days 2 days a week. Students will wear heart rate monitors on a weekly basis.

  • Mind & Body Fitness (open to 9th - 12th grades) - PE class everyday. Students will focus on different topics each day of the week. Students will wear heart rate monitors on a weekly basis.

  • Officiating (open to 9th - 12th grades)- this course will have some classroom time to learn how to be an official. Students will learn knowledge about officiating, practice officiating and by the end of the semester class be ready to take a certification test to become an official (if the student choose to do so). This course will also have days of fitness and wear heart rate monitors on a weekly basis.

  • Walking for Wellness (open to 9th - 12th grades)- PE class everyday. This class will primarily going outside on a daily basis, including cold weather. Students will wear heart rate monitors on a daily basis to monitor their individual activity levels. Once a week students will be required to be in the cardiovascular exercise range while wearing the heart rate monitor.

  • Yoga: Core & more (open to 9th - 12th grades) - PE class everyday. Three days a week will have a focus on yoga and two days a week the focus will be on physical fitness. Students will wear heart rate monitors on a weekly basis.

 

Sophomore Year: 

Sophomores take a one-semester course of Health Education.  This includes studies of physical, mental, emotional, and social health. The other semester is Driver Education & Safety.  It will depend on the student's birthday as to if they are in first semester or second semester for these two courses.  

ATTENTION - ALL sophomore students are placed in our driver education course automatically. If you choose to not take driver education at PNHS, students NEED to submit an elective change form BEFORE the end of the school year prior to sophomore year (so by the end of the student's freshmen year). Junior & Senior Year:

Juniors and Seniors have a choice of activities to participate in each semester. Below are the elective choices Junior and Senior year: 

Elective choices:

  • Adventure Challenge (this course they climb the rock wall in the field house)

  • Dance I or II

  •  Mind/Body Fitness

  • Skills for Healthy Living (advance health class, 3 days a week health, 2 days a week PE)

  • Recreational Activities

  • Sports Medicine

  • Team Sports- Fall or Spring (different sports each semester)

  • Introduction to Weight Training

  • Strength Performance (advanced weight training, need teacher recommendation for this)

  • Officiating

  • Walking for Wellness

  • Yoga: Core & more

  • PE leadership (on an application basis only)

Twice a week the students will participate fitness activities. Heart rate monitors will be worn in all Physical Education classes on a weekly basis.   

PE Uniform Policy: There is not an official uniform that students have to wear.  Students must be dressed in order to fully participate in active participation.  NO jeans, cargo pants, dresses or skirts. Proper shoes MUST be worn everyday. No boots, uggs, flip flops, crocks, etc. Tennis/Athletic shoes are the requirement.

Students must use a school (district) issued lock to lock up their belongings in the PE locker room- both during class and after class.  

When students are absent from PE class, they will need to make up participation points.  Students should talk to their PE teacher as to how they can do this or check their google classroom for more details!
