Student-Athletes
From registering with eligibility centers to signing a letter of intent, the college application process is different for student-athletes. Get in the Game: Tips for Student-Athletes and Their Families breaks down the process into ten steps to help you identify a college where you can pursue both your athletic and academic interests.
Core course GPA offers 1 minute webinars that will also help explain the various steps to becoming a student-athlete in college.
NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association)
The NCAA Eligibility Center works with you and your high school to help you prepare for life as a student-athlete and meet initial eligibility requirements. If you want to play NCAA sports at a Division I or II school, you need to register with the NCAA Eligibility Center. College-bound student-athletes in Division III can also create a Profile Page to receive important updates about being a student-athlete and preparing for college.
Here are some important NCAA links to guide you through the process:
NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics)
The NAIA is an alternative organization to the NCAA. Membership consists of 250+ smaller colleges and universities from the United States and Canada. PlayNAIA.org is the official clearinghouse for NAIA eligibility. Every student-athlete must register with the NAIA Eligibility Center to play sports at a NAIA college or university.
NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association)
The mission of the NJCAA is to promote and foster two-year college athletics.
Due to the unique academic and athletic situation of each individual, and the complexity of the NJCAA eligibility rules, it is recommended that each potential student-athlete discuss their athletic eligibility with the athletic personnel at the NJCAA college where they have chosen to attend.
